The festivities began on Saturday when the couple hosted an amazing mehndi ceremony with a superb mela theme. Cooks from Lucknow were specially flown down to prepare some of the most amazing delicacies for the big day.
On Sunday the couple had sangeet where guests and the to-be-married danced their hearts out. The couple did not want to have a traditional wedding and hence they opted for registered marriage. The couple got married today at Imran's house in Bandra and now the 'Khan-daan' is heading for a lavish dinner at Mumbai's Taj Lands End.
Avantika chose Varun Bahl for her mehndi outfits and sported a Manish Malhotra lehenga for her sangeet ceremony. Imran wore Karan Johar's designs. Johar also played wedding planner to the couple and he was the one who gave details to the designers about the designs, colours etc., and also picked accessories for the bride.
The wedding today was a family affair and few close friends and relatives were invited. However, now the actual celebrations are about to begin. Almost 50 people are set to leave for Phuket, Thailand tomorrow for beachside celebrations. The three-day-long celebration will see a sunset wedding and many other post wedding rituals.
It was Avantika who chose Phuket because she loves the beauty of the place and finds it very romantic. But sadly Aamir and wife Kiran would not be part of the Phuket celebrations because of the pending post-production work of their upcoming movie 'Dhobi Ghaat' which is up for release in a few weeks.
Designers Shantanu-Nikhil are the ones who are looking after the outfits for the sunset wedding. Avantika will wear a scarlet gown while her mother Vandana Malik will wear a sari and her brother a sherwani all designed by the designer duo.
The Khans and the Maliks have booked Marriott's Khao Lak Island Resort where the couple will exchange their wedding vows. After the couple is done with Phuket celebrations, they will be back in Mumbai only to get ready for another grand reception.
Their reception will take place on February 5 which will be a grand affair, especially since the Maliks are the head honchos of TV 18 Group, a lot of big names are expected, from Bollywood to business tycoons and socialites all are expected to join in the celebration.
