By: Monu Sharma, Feme Fashions Bureau, Kolkata Dt: 11/02/2009

Agnimitra, an MBA from Jadavpur University, topped off by a Diploma from the fashion school of the BILAMS, which triggered her launching of her own label INGA.

Born and brought up in Asansol, Paul is a doctor’s daughter. Her career’s beginning was in 1997 by earning Rs 2500 in Espee and later Senioreeta. Later, 2004 was her first cut, she proved herself as a designer and opened her studio and it’s now that she supplies her designs to approx 20 stores across the country. Her hardwork and passion towards designing has made her successful fashion designer.

Agnimitra Paul's collectionShe Started her designing for Lenin club, bollywood star Sridevi, Miss India Shonal Ranawat, Mithun Chakraborty, Rituparna Sengupta, Mouli Ganguly etc.

The label ‘Agnimitra Paul’ is positioned in a manner where the woman of substance can find a range of wear that dares to be different, while the aspirant to the fashion scene can quickly get into stride through the wide choice of Pret wear that come from Agni’s stable.

Paul had worked on menswear in bollywood. But, for her collection she is just into women wear. Indian and Western – skirts, trousers, kurtis, sarees, bridal wear. Fusion costume – skirt with a palu, trouser with a drape and slit, saree draped and stitched Palu.

Her designs always contain fusion theme with an Indian embroidery work and kantha collection on it. She mixes western attire with Indian touch and cuts, the falls, drapes, slits, sleeves are all differently arranged.  Moreover, contrast colours are used which gives her customer a unique and extravagant feel.

Designer says, “I always create designs with the changes in Indian and Western attires. People appreciate my fusion theme and drapes; it gives strength and confidence for designing more new costumes. Presently, I am working on modern saree with a slit with leggings inside it. I believe fashion is style. Think and wear different and you are your own designer and stylist. As for now I am only into women wear but later in coming year I am planning to design menswear.”

“I prefer rich colours in my collection, it makes one feel more confident and glamorous especially shades of plum, burgundy, wine, electric green etc and my all time favourite fabric chiffon, georgette. My latest collection contains satin, velvet and lenin woven with tissue,” she adds proudly.

Purnima Chawla, Director Espee boutique says, "She started her career from our boutique and is a successful designer now. I am very happy for Agnimitra. Her hardwork, ambitious and promising nature is the right combination that has taken her forward in her life. In Paul's designs, i find cuts and colours are perfectly placed, which makes the costume a perfect designer wear collection."

Actress Rituparna Sengupta, says, “Paul’s Indian wear has western cuts. The drapes in a saree are timmed according to the body structure which gives a free flow to the fabric as well as design. The ‘palu’ is also stitched with a stylish cut. Her designer attire makes one comfortable in moving, a person doesn’t need to bother and arrange the drape or palu of saree when they are in midst of any work or around the crowd. It gives the customer a true satisfaction.”

Paul adds with a smile, “It’s time that people in Kolkata are getting trapped in fashion. But, the fact remains, that instead expanding on the expensive designer wear; people prefer paying for education, nice dinner on weekends, a short holiday during vacations.”

She is the fashion designer who proves that you can look glamorous and create the same kind of enchantment of those who love their flamboyant.
